VILLA PARK — A 25-year-old west suburban man is facing a felony charge after police said he was intoxicated when he drove his SUV into a tree, seriously injuring himself and a passenger, early on Black Friday.

Jose A. Ortiz-Barocio of Villa Park was arrested Dec. 5 and charged with one count of aggravated DUI causing great bodily harm, according to a statement from Villa Park police.

The accident happened about 4:37 a.m. on Nov. 28 in the 600 block of West Plymouth in Villa Park, according to police.

Responding officers and firefighters found a 2005 Ford Explorer had “struck a tree, causing significant damage to the vehicle,” the statement said.

Both occupants suffered serious injuries and were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, police said. The male passenger suffered a broken leg and has also been released from the hospital.

“Subsequent investigation of the accident revealed that the driver of the vehicle was under the influence at the time of the crash,” police said.

Ortiz-Barocio, who was also cited for not having a valid driver’s license, is being held in the DuPage County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
