‘Veronica Mars’ heads to the web

First there was the “Veronica Mars” TV show. Then came the film earlier this year — created via crowd-sourced funding.

Now, VM creator Rob Thomas has announced a spiinoff web series — hinted at back in January — is now a happening thing.

Thomas says the tone of the new series would be similar to his Starz show “Party Down” and would be about Ryan Hansen, who played Dick Casablancas on “Veronica Mars.”

The reported name of the new webcast will be “Play It Again, Dick” and will star Hansen, as well as virtually the entire “Veronica Mars” cast.

Now, pay attention, because it gets even a bit more complicated. Hansen will not only again play Dick in the series, but he’ll also portray a fictionalized version of himself who has written a “Veronica” spinoff for himself and his former co-stars.

Along with Hansen, Kristen Bell will play a version of herself as well as her Veronica Mars character. Keeping with this theme, all the other VM cast members will play both themselves and their characters on the show.

Got all that?

The eight-episode web series — each approximately 10 minutes long — will air online on the CW’s Seed on Sept. 15.
