THREE THINGS WE KNOW

1. The race of the year so far may have come in the 1,600 meters at last weekend’s Bruce Ritter Invitational hosted by Downers Grove North. York’s Emma Fisher won in 5 minutes, 2.23 seconds — three-hundredths of a second ahead of Glenbard West’s Madeline Perez.

2. Young’s Shianne Baggett is someone to keep an eye on in the middle distances. She’s 2-for-2 in invitational titles outdoors after running 2:20.76 last weekend at Schaumburg’s Mike Rebeck Invitational.

3. Edwardsville’s Emmonie Henderson could be the greatest thrower in Illinois history. She had an all-time state best of 167 feet, 8 inches in the discus last week, breaking the three-year old record of Carlinville’s Kelsey Card. Henderson is going for a four-peat in the shot put in Class 3A and a three-peat in the discus (she was third as a freshman).
