Sandburg is twin trouble. It should be interesting during the next four seasons charting the progress of Sandburg’s sister combination of Katie and Julia Ruzevich as they develop from freshmen into seniors. More often than not, one or both of the 5-foot-10 forwards are among the team leaders for the 6-2 Eagles. Julia is averaging 12.8 points and 8.2 rebounds, while Kate is at 6.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists.

Oak Forest is coming along. The Bengals looked pretty shabby in a 20-point loss on opening night against Rich South, but have since started to round into a balanced team. Friday’s 45-31 win over Shepard put them at 5-4 overall and 3-0 in the South Suburban Blue. Maddie Baxa is the go-to scorer, but Amy McKeown has double-digit potential and Taylor Sterkowitz will only get stronger.

Bring a calculator. If you’re going to watch Lincoln-Way Central play this season get ready to see the scoreboard numbers spin. Employing the “Grinnell System” — a fast-break offense featuring tons of three-point shots and frequent five-for-five line shifts — has resulted in some wild scores. On Friday, the Knights lost 102-86 to Bradley. Central has found mixed success overall, entering the week at 4-4 overall and 0-1 in the SouthWest Suburban Red.
