I admit I didn’t research this post much. Call it lazy.
But I did want to comment nevertheless.
Two Curie students transfered to Foreman, arguably the best team in Chicago, this week. Curie coach Michael Oliver is upset. Rightfully so. Wayne Blackshear transfered from Curie during the middle of last season as a sophomore. The Louisville recruit’s played the entire season for Morgan Park.
Like Blackshear, these two Curie players — Asante Smiter and Andre Arrington — must sit out the rest of the season. But, as I understand the rules, they both will be available to play in the 2010-11 season.
What I don’t get is why do this now, during the Public League playoffs? Both Smiter and Arrington started for Curie. Even if they feared for their starting jobs next season, they still had this season to play and prove themselves to the city and college coaches.
As far as I am concerned, unless there’s a case of misconduct on Curie’s part, there’s no excuse for this. If I am a college coach, I don’t recruit either of these players.
I am assuming we should stay tuned.
