1. Lincoln-Way Central jumps rank. No letdown for Central after defeating Sandburg 30-21 for the first time since 2009. The Knights marched into Hoffman Estates two days later and placed 13 wrestlers no worse than fourth in the 12-team tournament. Talk about depth. Sean Kelly (195) won his title with three pins in 5:21 of total mat time.

2. Johnson rolling strikes. The way Lockport junior Tyler Johnson is getting pins, you’d think he’s bowling. The 195-pounder is 17-0 on the season with 14 pins and three wins by forfeit. Johnson has gone into the second period just twice while putting together one of the dominant showings in the state.

3. Yay for Yahyah. You won’t find Mount Carmel freshman Yahya Thomas atop any of the 106-pound rankings, but the lightweight looked flashy at a recent triangular. Caravan coach John Kading called Thomas “extremely tough.” He’s a guy to keep tabs on.
