Football Fun (Class 8A)

I watched Glenbrook South beat Notre Dame by the shoelace Friday. I actually came away more impressed with the Dons than I did with the Titans. Go figure.

Anyhow, here’s how I did in the first round. I went 12-4. I still have seven of my eight quarterfinalists and all four of my semifinalists.

The biggest loss for me was Lockport losing to Naperville Central. Oh well. I never see south or west suburban teams.

As you read, I picked Maine South to repeat. After a 28-14 win over Oak Park-River Forest, there’s some doubt. Not much but some. After all, great teams must face great challenges and overcome them. The Hawks did that.

I do look forward to this weekend’s Maine South-Leyden game in Northlake. The Eagles’ Angel Maldonaldo is a bronco. The Division I recruit has more than 2,000 yards this season.
