THE SKINNY

Stevenson started the season 0-2, but junior quarterback Willie Bourbon carried the Patriots to a 34-0 halftime lead Thursday. Stevenson managed to tack on a few more scores after the reserves entered the game to start the second half.

TURNING POINT

How about the opening kickoff? As soon as Stevenson receivers Matt Morrissey and Cameron Green — both over 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds — walked onto the field, it was apparent how physically superior the Patriots were. The Michigan State-bound Morrissey had two touchdown grabs.

THE STAR

Bourbon didn’t touch the ball much, but he made it count when he did. His first rush of the game was a 34-yard score, and his first pass was a 20-yard touchdown to Morrissey. His final stat line was efficient: 3-for-5 passing for 30 yards and two touchdowns, and two runs that went for 51 yards and two scores.

BY THE NUMBERS

At one point, Zion-Benton junior quarterback Doug Gates threw 10 straight incompletions with two interceptions.

QUOTABLE

“We were a little down being 0-2 because we had some high expectations. We knew we had to work harder. Nothing is given in this game; you got to work hard and you got to earn it. When you put the work in the victories happen.”  — Stevenson senior running back Ryan Mass
