Look, Lakes officials would probably point to the fact that Bill Rosencrans had lost his teaching position at the school after cutbacks took place earlier in the year as one of the reasons behind the dismissal. (Lakes A.D. Troy Parola has been on vacation and unavailable for comment until next week.)
But Rosencrans certainly still believed he had a chance to stay on and continue to direct the baseball program. Regardless, the move that was made shortly following the team’s 12-8 upset loss to rival Antioch in the IHSA Class 3A Grayslake Central Regional semifinals certainly raises some questions.
Rosencrans led the Eagles to its first two division titles in his two seasons and a 46-25 record (20-4 in the NSC Prairie). Apparently, that wasn’t good enough.
Rosencrans told me that he believed a couple of parents (what a surprise) led the campaign to have him removed. I also recently spoke with a rival coach who told me some complained about Rosencrans because he ran tough practices and sometimes yelled at his players.
If this indeed was the reason he was let go, is this a sign of the times in high school sports these days? Or is it just a sign of an extremely sad situation up at Lakes right now?
In my opinion, there has a disturbing trend of parents dictating the actions of coaches and school officials more than ever in recent years. But maybe it’s just me. Or maybe that has always been the case.
