THE SKINNY: The legs of Julian Hylton and the right foot of Oswaldo Salazar spearheaded Lincoln-Way North to a 37-0 non-conference win over Hillcrest in the home opener for the Phoenix (2-0). Hillcrest fell to 0-2.

TURNING POINT: Two minutes after recovering a fumble at the Hillcrest 41, Hylton scored from 2 yards out to push the Phoenix lead to 24-0 with 6:40 left in the third quarter.

THE STAR: One week after totaling 300 yards of offense, Hylton rushed for 215 yards and touchdown runs of 2, 29, 31 and 72 yards. Salazar kicked field goals of 37, 37 and 40 yards.

BY THE NUMBERS: Lincoln-Way North is 2-0 for the third time in the last four years after beating Hillcrest for the fourth time in as many meetings. Hillcrest lost for the 28th time in the last 29 games.

QUOTABLE: “I’m going to play some defense this year and that helped our team out a lot,” Hylton said of the fumble recovery. “I always want to do better every game. That’s what I was trying to do tonight.”
