Westinghouse overcomes first-half deficit, scrapes by Riverside-Brookfield

THE SKINNY

Riverside-Brookfield missed two crucial free throws in the final two seconds which allowed Westinghouse to overcome a 12-point first-half deficit and escape with a victory in the Chops Billinger Memorial Shootout Saturday at Young.

THE TURNING POINT

Westinghouse trailed 50-45 at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth, there were six lead changes and four ties until the Warriors took the lead for good at 66-65 with 1:38 remaining on a free throw by De’Quaniis Jackson.

THE STAR

Jackson scored 10 of his team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter. He was aided by Darrell Ivy and Marlik Williams, who scored eight points apiece in the fourth quarter.

BY THE NUMBERS

Westinghouse held a six-point lead with 27 seconds remaining in the game and withstood a furious rally by the Bulldogs, who trimmed the margin to 73-72 with two seconds to play.
