Volleyball recruiting is starting to wrapup for the Class of 2009. The first day of the earning signing period is Nov. 12.

Hersey senior Ann Carroll, who had a match-high 11 kills in the Huskies’ MSL championship match win over Conant, has narrowed her list to Harvard, Cornell and Lehigh. Carroll is a 6-foot- middle hitter.

Glenbrook South sophomore Ellen Chapman, a 6-3 middle hitter, expects to receive plenty of offers from Big Ten and even Pac-10 schools. One source said she is planning on visiting Penn State next month. The defending NCAA champion Lions are undefeated and ranked No. 1 this season. The source said Chapman could make an early decision in the next two to three months.

State lawmakers can pass legislation that would restore the safeguards the U.S. Supreme Court removed last year on wetlands, which play a key role in helping to mitigate the impact of climate change and are critical habitats for birds, insects, mammals and amphibians.
