Linda Peete was named athletic director of Crete-Monee at a District 201-U school board meeting Tuesday night.

She was approved by a 4-1 vote, with two board members absent.

Peete, who was the girls volleyball coach at Southland College Prep Charter High School in Richton Park this  past year, succeeds Gene Cahan, whose contract wasn’t renewed.

Peete’s appointment does not come without controversy. A search committee was asked to submit its top three candidates to the school board in order of preference.

According to sources, Greg Schneider was the unanimous pick for the position and was on the agenda to be recommended for the athletic director’s position during a June 17 school board meeting. The board, however, decided to table the item and re-open the selection process.

Peete was athletic director of compliance at Chicago State University prior to landing at Southland College Prep Charter.
