THE SKINNY

Oswego won for the ninth time in nine meetings with Oswego East dating back to 2005 with a 48-10 victory Friday night.

TURNING POINT

Oswego East (3-2, 1-2) tried a little razzle-dazzle on the kickoff return following the touchdown that gave Oswego (3-2, 3-0 in the Suburban Prairie Conference) a 6-3 lead with 3:08 remaining in the first quarter, but the Wolves fumbled an attempted lateral and the Panthers recovered at the 5. Sophomore quarterback Steven Frank scored on the next play to extend the lead to 12-3 and the rout was on.

THE STAR

Oswego’s defense forced five turnovers and limited Oswego East to 144 yards through three quarters. Sixty-seven of those yards came on a run by Trevor Kalosh on the very first play from scrimmage. Oswego defensive back Charlie Jakubowski returned an interception 37 yards for a TD.

BY THE NUMBERS

Frank completed just 8-of-23 passes, but those eight completions went for 202 yards and four touchdowns.

QUOTABLE

“We put our offense in some bad spots the first couple of games where we forced them to have to come from behind. We have some new people on defense and it’s taken us some time to gel. After that little breakdown on the first play, we shut them down.” — Oswego linebacker Sean Graff.
