The most underrated girls holiday hoops tourney

Dundee-Crown has some marquee teams this year like Fenwick, New Trier and Naperville Central, but I am nominating the newly revamped Suburban Holiday Showcase as the place to be this holiday basketball season.

The tournament has changed to a six-team, round-robin format. Each school will host three games during the tournament, which features four teams ranked in the Sun-Times’ Super 25: Loyola, Niles West, Trinity and Stevenson.

The schedule:

Saturday, Dec. 19

At Stevenson

Loyola vs. Niles West, noon

Lake Zurich vs. Trinity, 1:30 p.m.

Stevenson vs. Barrington, 3 p.m.

Monday, Dec. 21

At Lake Zurich

Loyola vs. Barrington, 4 p.m.

Niles West vs. Trinity, 5:30 p.m.

Lake Zurich vs. Stevenson, 7 p.m.

Tuesday, Dec. 22

At Niles West

Trinity vs. Barrington, 4 p.m.

Stevenson vs. Loyola, 5:30 p.m.

Niles West vs. Lake Zurich, 7 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 26

At Loyola

Niles West vs. Barrington, noon

Trinity vs. Stevenson, 1:30 p.m.

Loyola vs. Lake Zurich, 3 p.m.

Monday, Dec. 28

At Trinity

Barrington vs. Lake Zurich, 4 p.m.
