2012 record: 5-5 overall, 3-2 in CSL South

2012 playoffs: Lost in first round of Class 8A to Schaumburg

Head coach: Mike Noll, entering 10th season

Game to watch: Prospect at Glenbrook South, 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The Titans will be looking to avenge a 55-41 loss to the Knights at the start of last season, and they will be doing it with a new quarterback under center, possibly 6-foot-8 junior Fitz Stadler.

Who made the most of the offseason?

Senior lineman Brennan Cascarano is one of the strongest players on the Titans, testing in the top tier among his teammates, according to Glenbrook South coach Mike Noll. Senior Brett Laurie said Cascarano, who like Laurie is a two-way starter, has improved his speed and will be a force on both sides on the ball.

Who will be a difference maker this season?

Laurie is a combination of speed, power and smarts at both cornerback and running back. The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder will be a lockdown defender and someone who can change the game on offense with one touch of the ball. “He has that energy you want in a football player,” senior linebacker Tommy O’Hara said.

What adjustments did the program make during the offseason?

Laurie said one new thing the team did was create a weightlifting competition during the summer. Players were split up into groups of seven. Teams earned points over many categories, including attendance. The winning team, led by Laurie, received preferential treatment at the team’s camp last month at Augustana College in Rock Island. For example, team members were first in line for meals at the cafeteria. “We also got free Chipotle,” Laurie said.

What I did over my summer vacation … Tommy O’Hara

Most of the stuff I did was related to sports. I play baseball, basketball and football, and I was always doing something with one of those sports. I did get a chance to go visit some family in central Minnesota in August. It’s a small town called Alexandria. My grandmother has a house on the lake, and we just went swimming, tubing. I also played a round or two of golf up there. It was a good way to relax and take my mind off of all the other things that are going on.
