Lockport coach Bob Champlin was happy two of his teams could enjoy success in the 28-team Lockport Invitational.
After Friday’s preliminary rounds, the Porters varsity team made it to the second level and won that eight-team tournament for a ninth-place overall finish. The Porters JV team finished second in the third-level tournament for an 18th-place finish.
This tournament was different than most tennis tourneys in that less emphasis was placed on individuals.
“The kids depend on each other and cheer more because more is on the line,” Champlin said. “And it allows coaches to stay with the team instead of going to different sites. The atmosphere is more exciting.”
Also from the area, Providence took third, Lincoln-Way East fourth, Lincoln-Way Central 11th, Lincoln-Way North 12th, Plainfield North 17th, Plainfield Central 19th, Plainfield South 20th, Lincoln-Way North’s JV 22nd, Lincoln-Way West 23rd, Plainfield East 24thand Minooka 28th.
