Host Waukegan (2-6) came out on fire, hitting 8-of-10 first-quarter shots, scoring the game’s first 17 points and rolling to a 68-53 Central Suburban League South Division win over Niles West (4-3).

TURNING POINT

This one was decided early. Waukegan scored the game’s first 17 points, with Niles West finally getting on the board with 3 seconds left in the first quarter. A combination of 1-of-7 shooting and 8 turnovers  led to Niles’ first-quarter score, and Waukegan upped the margin to 41-19 at halftime.

For Waukegan, Tyron Whittington had 12 points, Jachai Taylor 10 and Damien Bell 10. For Niles West, Evan Heinz had 21 points, and Romeo Magloire had 10. Heinz had four treys in the third quarter as the Wolves got as close as 55-46 in the fourth quarter before the Bulldogs pulled away. For the game, was Waukegan was 25-of-42 shooting.
