THE SKINNY

In a battle between District 86 schools, eighth-seeded Hinsdale Central held off ninth-seeded Hinsdale South in a Class 4A Hinsdale South Regional semifinal. Central also beat South 25-13, 25-23 on Oct. 23. Central plays top-seeded Glenbard South (30-6) in the regional final at 6 p.m. Thursday.

TURNING POINT

Hinsdale South (14-22) scored six consecutive points to tie the second set at 17-17, but Hinsdale Central (14-22) regained the lead with a kill by Nikki Hilbrich and a block by Claire Cornell.

THE STAR

San Diego-bound junior outside hitter Lauren Fuller had a match-high eight kills for Central, with five coming in the first set. Fuller had eight kills in the first set alone on the way to 12 total during the first meeting with South.

BY THE NUMBERS

Central dominated this year’s series with South. Both teams battled to three-set wins a year ago. South won during the regular season, but Central prevailed in the rematch to clinch a sectional title.
