The Daley Schmooze …

Psst! The Daley dynasty is not dead yet.

Sneed has learned attorney Patrick Thompson, who now lives in the 11th Ward home of his famous grandfather — the late Mayor Richard J. Daley — plans to run for alderman of the bastion of Daleydom.

Sneed hears 11th Ward Ald. James Balcer has been told his retirement would be welcome and will announce he will be leaving office in April.

Sneed is also told nominating petitions for Thompson, the nephew of former Mayor Richard M. Daley, will begin circulating this week.

“It’s not surprising that Thompson, who won a recent election for Water Reclamation District commissioner, would toss his hat in the ring,” said a labor union source.

“It’s just the next generation of Daleys testing their muscle, and Thompson is probably the best one of the lot to do it,” said the source. “He is actually well liked.”

Thompson is the son of Patricia Daley Martino, a daughter of the late Mayor Richard J. Daley. “Patrick is different than some of his cousins, who were spoiled by the Daley largess,” said a second source.

Stay tuned.
