Laverne Cox, star of “Orange Is The New Black,” will be here for the annual Chicago House Speakers Series luncheon.

Laverne Cox, star of the hit show “Orange Is The New Black,” and the first openly transgendered person to be nominated for an Emmy, will be among the high-profile guest speakers at the sixth annual Chicago House Speaker Series.

Cox will be joined by Jason Collins, the first openly gay NBA player, and Dustin Lance Black, the Academy Award-winning screenwriter of “Milk.”

The Wednesday, Oct. 15 luncheon at the Chicago Hilton will feature a conversation among the participants about race, gender identity, class and solidarity in the LGBT community.

The event will benefit the programs of Chicago House, the first organization in the Midwest to provide housing for people with HIV and AIDS. Past Speaker Series luncheons have been keynoted by President Bill Clinton, former Secretaries of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Madeleine Albright, Whoopi Goldberg and designer Kenneth Cole.
