Rival senators agree to be stranded on island for reality show

Call it the ultimate show of bipartisanship: two rival U.S. senators are willing to be stranded on an island for a show called “Rival Survival.”

The one-hour special will air Oct. 29 on the Discovery Channel and star Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Arizona, and Sen. Martin Heinrich, D-New Mexico. They pitched the idea, a Discovery spokeswoman told CNN Money.

Neither senator is up for re-election, and it was shot earlier this year when the Senate wasn’t in session.

Here’s how Discovery describes the show:

Disconnected from the world on an uninhabited island surrounded by shark infested waters that mirror the seemingly treacherous terrain of the U.S. Congress, the senators must put their political differences aside and work together for six days and six nights to find common ground through compromise if they want to survive.

We can only hope they both fare better than Patti Blagojevich, who got swept down a river while on “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!”
