Matt Damon as Jason Bourne in “The Bourne Ultimatum” in 2007 — the last of the three films he previously made in the popular franchise.
Here’s another good example of “never say never.” Universal Pictures is bringing back Matt Damon in a new Bourne movie, re-teaming the Oscar winner with director Paul Greengrass, who helmed“The Bourne Identity,” “The Bourne Supremacy” and “The Bourne Ultimatum.”
While Greengrass told Deadline.com only last year that this wouldn’t be possible, apparently he and the Bourne team have figured out a way to make the storyline move ahead in a believable fashion. Universal execs are said to be so excited about the concept that they have already slated the film for a July 16, 2016, release.
That will move back the Bourne spinoff franchise, starring Jeremy Renner, that began with “The Bourne Legacy,” though that separate project will be an ongoing continuation of the expanded Bourne world — and is still in development.
