Drugs or alcohol may have played a role in a two-vehicle crash on the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) Tuesday afternoon that injured two people on the Near West Side, police said.

The crash happened about 5:45 p.m. in the inbound lanes of the Eisenhower near Racine Avenue, according to Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Rene Benavidez.

Two people suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash, Benavidez said. Hospital information was not immediately available.

Benavidez said it’s possible that drugs or alcohol affected the crash.

Three lanes of the expressway were closed for about 20 minutes while crews worked to clear the crash, Benavidez said.
