SPRINGFIELD — Republican Bruce Rauner seized on a new federal subpoena tied to Gov. Pat Quinn’s failed Neighborhood Recovery Initiative by launching a new television ad attacking the century-long tenure of Quinn and his current and former Democratic allies in Springfield.

The 30-second spot, titled “100 Years,” focuses in on Senate President John Cullerton, D-Chicago, House Speaker Michael Madigan, D-Chicago, imprisoned ex-Gov. Rod Blagojevich and Quinn in making the case that Democrats have held power for too long in state government.

“Cullerton, Madigan, Blagojevich, Quinn. Together they’ve been in Springfield for over 100 years,” the ad begins.

The commercial focuses on unemployment, tax increases, borrowing and the state’s pension crisis before ending with a lyrical punch that sounds similar to the piano-striking conclusion of the Beatles’ “Day in the Life.”
