For the past month, a group of budding opera stars from around the country have been competing in the annual “American Opera Idol” competition at The Merion on Chicago Avenue in Evanston.

This important musical event is spearheaded by world-famous baritone Sherrill Milnes, who will be hosting the grand finale on Friday, Sept. 26.

The single winner will receive both a round-trip plane ticket and a $3,000 scholarship to attend Milnes intensive voice workshop in Florida.
