Former Chicagoan Vince Vaughn will join Colin Farrell in the new season of “True Detective.”

Only one day after the news broke that Colin Farrell was jumping into the second season of “True Detective,” we learn Chicago and Buffalo Grove’s own Vince Vaughn will be teaming up with the Irish actor as the replacements for Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson on the popular HBO crime show.

The cable network confirmed Vaughn’s casting on Tuesday and also confirmed the widely held rumor that Justin Lin (“The Fast & The Furious,”“Community”) will direct the first two episodes of the new season.

The eight-episode second season is set to begin production in Los Angeles later this fall. According to the HBO announcement, Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, a “compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.”

Vaughn’s character is described as Frank Semyon, “a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate business is upended by the murder of a business partner.”

HBO also has indicated there will be more casting announcements shortly for other key roles in the series.
