Usually, when a celebrity files for a restraining order, it’s for protection from a crazed fan they don’t know. However, the temporary restraining order “Modern Family” star Sarah Hyland requested and was granted Tuesday was directed at her ex-boyfriend.

Hyland’s attorney Lee Sherman said in a statement, “The documents speak for themselves,” referring to the legal action presented to a Los Angeles judge.

TMZ reports Hyland testified in sworn statement that former beau and actor Matthew Prokop’s “grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak,” stated the 23-year-old star. “I was scared and in fear for my life.”

In her affidavit, Hyland attached her application for the protective order, claiming Prokp “relentlessly bombarded me with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voice mails including his own suicide threats.”

Hyland and Prokop had a five-year relationship, before splitting up in August. They met when they both auditioned for Disney’s “High School Musical.”

Hyland plays Haley Dunphy on the long-running hit sitcom, “Modern Family.”
