Women Rock Chicago steps off Saturday

The strength and solidarity of females is on display big time when Women Rock Chicago kicks off Saturday.

There’s something for everyone at Women Rock, which was voted the best women’s run in the Midwest in 2013 by competitor.com. Oh, and it isn’t just one race. It includes a half-marathon, 10k and 5k, all along the lakefront. Many of the participants line up alongside their girlfriends or sisters.

The races begin and end near the Peggy Notebaert Museum, 2430 N. Cannon Drive.

And when the runners cross the finish line, the Men of Women Rock are there to put on the participants’ prize, a ruby-and-diamond pendant (a big “W”) on a sterling silver chain. The necklace alone is valued at $120. Check out the appraisal here. A very cool-looking necklace, I must say.

A post party with entertainment follows the races.

(BTW, on race day leave the strollers (hey, this is YOUR day) and dogs at home.)

At the packet pickup on Friday, each participant will get a very cute hot pink, women-cut running jacket. There’s a chance to shop for more gear at the expo that’ll be in operation during the pickup.

Online registration is closed, but you can still sign up at the packet pickup, which is from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday in the rear access lot at the Notebaert.
