WASHINGTON–President Barack Obama is in Estonia on Wednesday to meet with the leaders of the Baltic Nations to discuss Russian aggression in Ukraine before departing the Tallinn Airport for Newport, Wales to attend the NATO summit. Chicago hosted the last NATO summit in 2012.

Obama delivered assurances that the U.S. will stand by the Baltics and announced that the U.S. will be sending more military resources to the region, part of the U.S. committment under NATO.

DAILY GUIDANCE AND PRESS SCHEDULE FOR

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2014

In the morning, the President will arrive in Tallinn, Estonia. The arrival at the Tallinn Airport is open to pre-credentialed media. Following his arrival, the President will meet with employees and family members of the United States Embassy to Estonia at the Swissotel Tallinn. This event is closed press.

Later in the morning, the President will visit the Kadriorg Palace to participate in the official arrival ceremony, where he will be greeted by President Ilves of Estonia. There will be pre-set pool coverage of the President’s arrival. Afterward, the President will participate in the guest book signing and official photo. There will be pooled coverage of both the guest book signing and the official photo. Following the photo, the President will participate in a bilateral meeting with President Ilves. There will be a travel pool spray at the top of this meeting.

In the afternoon, the President will visit the Bank of Estonia to hold a joint press conference with President Ilves. The press conference is open to pre-credentialed media. Following the press conference, the President will visit the Stenbock House, where he will be greeted by Prime Minister Roivas of Estonia. There will be pooled coverage of the President’s arrival. While at the Stenbock House, the President will meet with Prime Minister Roivas to discuss bilateral ties, strategic and regional cooperation, and our shared commitment to the trans-Atlantic partnership. There will be a travel pool spray at the top of this meeting.

Later in the afternoon, the President will visit the Kadriorg Art Museum to meet with the three Baltic presidents — President Ilves, President Berzins of Latvia, and President Grybauskaite of Lithuania — to discuss ongoing cooperation on regional security, policies that support economic growth, and collective defense. This meeting is closed press. Following their meeting, the President and the three Baltic leaders will deliver statements to the press. There will be travel pool coverage of their statements.

In the evening, the President will deliver remarks at the Nordea Concert Hall to students, young professionals, and civil society leaders. The President’s remarks are open to pre-credentialed media. Following his speech, the President and Prime Minister Roivas will receive a briefing on NATO Reassurance and deliver remarks to U.S. and Estonian troops at the Tallinn Airport Hangar. There will be expanded pool coverage of the briefing and remarks.

Later in the evening, the President will travel to Newport, Wales, where he will remain overnight. The President’s departure from the Tallinn Airport is open to pre-credentialed media, and there will be travel pool coverage of his arrival at the Royal Air Force Station in Fairford.
