Man shot in car in Austin

A man was shot Tuesday night in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

The 21-year-old was sitting in the back seat of a vehicle driving west on Chicago Avenue at 9 p.m. when he was shot near the 800 block of North Massasoit, police said.

He was shot in the upper left thigh and taken to West Suburban Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said.

A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
