A new poll shows it continues to be a tight race between Gov. Pat Quinn and Republican challenger Bruce Rauner.

The Rasmussen Reports poll released Tuesday shows Quinn leads Rauner by a 44- to 42-percent spread, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. Of those polled, 6 percent don’t want Quinn or Rauner, while 8 percent say they’re undecided.

From Rasmussen: Indicative of the closeness of this race, however, is the finding that among the 87% of Illinois voters who say they are definitely going to vote, Rauner still barely leads 45% to 44%.

The latest poll results also have Rasmussen changing the race from “Leans Republican” to “Toss-Up.”

The race remains tight despite Quinn’s low approval ratings. Only 40 percent of those polled say they approve of the job Quinn is doing, while only 24 percent say the state is better off now than it was four years ago when he was elected to his first full term.

The last Rasmussen poll in April had Rauner with a 43-40 advantage, while a We Ask America Poll on Sept. 21 again showed the two in a dead heat, with Rauner’s 3-percentage point lead within the poll’s margin of error.
