(ST. CHARLES) A west suburban man was sentenced to 16 years in prison Wednesday on drug and weapons charges stemming from a 2011 arrest.
Nelson A. Caceras, 25, was sentenced to 16 years in prison late Wednesday, according to a statement from the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.
Caceras was convicted in May of armed violence and possession of a firearm defaced of its D marks, both felonies, and misdemeanor possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, according to the statement.
Caceras was arrested Jan. 25, 2011, after Aurora police served a warrant at his home in the 500 block of East New York Street, according to the statement.
A search turned up two handguns—a .357 Magnum and a defaced .25 caliber semiautomatic—as well as 3.5 grams each of cocaine and cannabis, prosecutors said.
Caceras was released after posting $2,500 bond, but failed to appear in court in early 2013, prosecutors said. He was later found in Puerto Rico and extradited back to Kane County.
Caceras will receive credit for at least 354 days served in the Kane County Jail.
