Two-time Tony Award-winner, plus double Grammy-winner Bebe Neuwirth will receive the Sarah Siddons Society of Chicago’s 2014 Artist-of-the-Year Award Sunday at a special luncheon gala at the Ritz-Carlton Chicago.
The event will also toast Chicago’s two leading theater critics — the Sun-Times’ Hedy Weiss and the Chicago Tribune’s Chris Jones — with special recognition awards for their contributions to Our Town’s cultural scene.
Neuwirth, who won her Tonys for “Chicago” and “Sweet Charity,” also won two Emmys for her portrayal of the deliciously nasty Lilith on “Cheers.”
The Sunday event, beginning at 11:30 a.m., will also include first-time presentations of Sarah Siddons Society scholarships to top performance arts students at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts.
The society has provided scholarships to theater students at major colleges and universities in the Chicago area for many years. In addition, for more than 60 years, the organization has annually honored celebrated stage and film actresses and actors.
I am pleased to again emcee the program, which will be directed by Dominic Missimi. For more information go to sarahsiddonssociety.org
