FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. – Playing in her first US Open, Hinsdale Central sophomore Caroline Dolehide upset one of the world’s top 10 juniors on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Junior US Open tennis tournament.

Dolehide, who received a wild card into qualifying and was the only American boy or girl to qualify, won her fifth consecutive match at the year’s final Grand Slam being played at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. She defeated No. 6-seeded Jil Belen Teichmann of Switzerland, 7-5, 6-1.

“It’s pretty exciting,” said Dolehide, who got up 3-0 in the first set but was down 5-4 before battling back. “It’s so great being here. To fight through the qualifying and to get this far is amazing. I’m actually glad I had to qualify. It got me here early and used to the court.”

On Friday in the quarterfinals, Dolehide will face last year’s US Open Junior runner-up Tornado Black from Boca Raton, Fla.

“I’ve never played Tornado but I’ve watched her a few times,” Dolehide said. “I warmed up with her this morning so I’m a little familiar with her.”
