Police: Homeowner catches armed would-be robber in Rogers Park

One person is in custody Friday night after a homeowner averted an armed robbery and held down the suspect until police arrived at his Rogers Park house on the North Side.

About 10 p.m., the homeowner heard a knock at the back door of his residence in the 1000 block of West North Shore Avenue, police said.

When he answered the door an unknown male pulled out a handgun and announced a robbery, police said.

A struggle ensued, and the resident was able to hold down the would-be robber until police arrived at the scene, police said. No one was injured.

The robber was taken into custody and charges were pending Friday night, police said.
