A restaurant security guard shot and killed a man who pulled a knife on him early Sunday in the Northwest Side Albany Park neighborhood.

The 47-year-old security guard told the intoxicated 36-year-old man to leave the restaurant in the 4500 block of North Kedzie a few minutes before 4 a.m., police said.

The man returned with a knife and attacked the security guard, who drew his weapon and fired shots, police said.

He was struck and taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

The man was identified as 36-year-old Juan Carlos Villalobos Avila, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. His address was not known Monday evening.

The security guard was not hurt, and no charges are pending against him, police said.
