(CROWN POINT, Ind.) A semi truck rolled over and lost its load of steel coils during the morning rush on Monday, closing all lanes of I-65 in northwest Indiana for several hours.

The accident happened about 7:50 a.m. when a 1999 Ford Explorer went out of control after it entered the northbound lanes of I-65 from the Crown Point ramp, according to Indiana State Police.

The SUV spun into the left lane where it struck a 2010 Freightliner semi pulling a flat-bed trailer carrying five steel coils, each weighing about 9,000 pounds, ISP said.

The semi “went off the roadway, through the median, broke through the guard rail (on west side), flipping upside down blocking all southbound traffic on I-65,” according to ISP. It then jack-knifed and lost its load onto the roadway.

The semi, owned by Joshua Transportation Company, was driven by Vladislav Dudko, 42 of Vancouver, Wash., who was not injured.

The SUV was driven by Emily Clouse, 22 of Lowell, Ind., who escaped injury, but was cited for unsafe lane movement and driving with no insurance, ISP said.

Traffic was routed off the expressway at 109th Street to Broadway, and back via U.S. 231 as all lanes were closed for investigation, cleanup of the vehicles and removal of the coils. All lanes were reopened about 11 a.m.
