FBI: Atlanta bomb threat that drew CPD response unfounded

A pair of bomb threats from someone claiming to be from Chicago that grounded two planes Saturday at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport were unfounded, the FBI said.

The threats were posted via Twitter about 1:50 p.m. by the user @kingZortic, who addressed the FBI, CIA and NSA.

The person claimed to have guns on Chicago’s West Side in the 4500 block of West Schubert. Officers investigated the address and determined the user doesn’t live there, Chicago Police said.

The threats were made against a Delta Airlines flight from Portland to Atlanta, as well as a Southwest Airlines flight from Milwaukee to Atlanta, according to an FBI statement.

“Earlier, airline officials received a bomb threat and precautions were taken, to include the scrambling of military aircraft via NORAD, having deemed the threats as credible,” the statement said.

“Explosives units at Atlanta have concluded their screening for explosives and both aircraft have now been cleared and no explosives were found,” according to the FBI.
