Fire goalie Sean Johnson on Saturday was named to the United States’ 23-man roster for their Jan. 28 friendly against Chile and a Feb. 8 game with Panama. Johnson, 25, is one of three goalies on the squad and has a chance to add to his four appearances with the senior national team.

“These guys have put in a lot of work these past two weeks of training for what is essentially their preseason, and now it’s time to focus on getting a result against a difficult opponent in Chile,” coach Jurgen Klinsmann said in a news release. “We know it’s going to be a challenging situation, but these are the types of opportunities we need to keep growing.”

Without Johnson, who has been with the national team at its annual January camp, the Fire report for preseason Sunday and will hold their first practice Monday in Bridgeview. The Fire’s goalies Monday will be Alec Kann and trialist Mark Pais.
