CHICAGO — A 20-year-old facing terrorism charges for allegedly trying to ignite a bomb in Chicago has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review an aspect of his case related to former government contractor Edward Snowden.

Adel Daoud wants the high court to reverse a June ruling by the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals denying his lawyers access to Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court records. Snowden revealed that court secretly approved expanded U.S. spying.

Daoud’s attorneys on Tuesday emailed to The Associated Press a copy of their late-December, 36-page petition for the Supreme Court to hear their appeal.

Lawyers say they can’t defend Daoud without examining intelligence court records prosecutors submitted to obtain a warrant. The 7th Circuit ruled opening them to Daoud’s lawyers could endanger national security.

Daoud has pleaded not guilty.
