CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The president of the University of Virginia says state alcohol regulators should direct their enforcement efforts at establishments, not students.

The Daily Progress reports that President Teresa A. Sullivan made the suggestion Wednesday, one week after a U.Va. student from Chicago was arrested by Alcoholic Beverage Control officers in a bloody encounter outside a Charlottesville bar.

The ABC is under intense scrutiny after Martese Johnson’s arrest was circulated on social media, including images of his bloody face. He was charged with public intoxication and obstruction of justice.

Earlier Wednesday, Gov. Terry McAuliffe ordered ABC agents to be retrained following Johnson’s arrest.
