Detectives are questioning a person of interest in connection with the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man last weekend in the Ravenswood neighborhood.

The shooting happened about 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the 2200 block of West Winnemac, police said.

A witness saw Dushanti Hassell in an alley with several other people when gunshots rang out, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Hassell, of the 5700 block of North Kenmore, was shot in the head and taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 9:33 p.m., authorities said.

At least five men were seen after the attack, which may have been gang-related, according to a statement from 40th Ward Ald. Patrick O’Connor. Police said a red SUV sped away from the scene.

One person of interest was being questioned in connection with the homicide, police said on Thursday morning.
