Minnie Minoso’s family announced Tuesday that it will hold a public visitation for the White Sox legend from noon until 8 p.m. Friday at the Holy Family Church, 1080 Roosevelt Rd.
A memorial service will be held at Holy Family Church at noon Saturday, followed by a procession that will pass by U.S. Cellular Field.
Minoso died Sunday morning at age 90. The popular outfielder was born in Cuba and played 17 seasons in the major leagues. He became the first black player in White Sox history on May 1, 1951.
Minoso was a community relations ambassador for the White Sox and a supporter of Chicago White Sox Charities. In lieu of flowers, Minoso’s family has asked that donations be made in Minnie’s memory to Chicago White Sox Charities by visiting www.whitesox.com/donate.
