Chicago native Harrison Ford was said to be in stable condition Thursday after crash-landing a single-engine plane he was piloting into a golf course near Venice, California.

As first reported by TMZ, the 72-year-old actor’s vintage two-seater aircraft crashed into the Penmar Golf Course around 2:25 p.m. The actor was transported to a local hospital with head injuries. He was the only person in the plane. There were no individuals injured on the ground.

Ford reportedly walked away from the crash, and was later attended to by two physicians who were on the scene.

“There was blood all over his face,” Howard Tabe, an employee at the Penmar Golf Course, told NBC News.

“Two very fine doctors were treating him, taking good care of him. I helped put a blanket under his hip.”

Ford is an avid pilot, but he has crashed planes before with minimal injuries. There was no immediate word on what caused the Thursday crash.

Ford drew headlines in early 2003, shortly after former Chicago mayor Richard M. Daley had construction crews destroy the runway at Meigs Field in the middle of the night. In an interview with the Sun-Times, the actor angrily criticized the mayor for secretly closing the airport — a favorite Chicago entry point for private pilots such as Ford.
