Woman shot in Galewood

A woman was shot Saturday evening in the Galewood neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

About 7 p.m., the 25-year-old was sitting in a vehicle with several other people in the 1800 block of North Merrimac when another vehicle drove up and someone inside fired shots in her direction, police said.

She was shot in the head and was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where her condition stabilized, police said.

Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 5900 block of South Ashland Avenue when they were shot at, police said. Five men were later taken into custody, two of whom were wounded. No officers were hurt.
