A man was stabbed to death Saturday afternoon in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.

Juan Martinez, 40, was standing outside with his girlfriend about 4:10 p.m. in the 2000 block of West 47th Street when the couple was confronted by a man they knew, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

That man, 39, pulled out a knife and stabbed Martinez multiple times, authorities said. The girlfriend was not injured.

Martinez, of the 4600 block of North Central Park, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:41 p.m., authorities said.

Police said the attacker has since been taken into custody. Charges were pending Sunday afternoon.
