Construction will prompt a string of overnight closures on the Eisenhower and Dan Ryan expressways from Saturday night until early Tuesday.

Weather permitting construction, lanes and ramp closures will be in effect from Saturday night into early Sunday and Monday night into early Tuesday, the Illinois Department of Transportation said in a statement.

Workers will be installing beams for the Peoria Street Bridge over Interstate 290 as part of the Jane Byrne Interchange Improvement Project, IDOT said.

At 11 p.m. Saturday, the left lane of eastbound I-290 from Racine to Peoria will be closed, IDOT said. Two more lanes in that area will be closed between 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. on Sunday. Access to eastbound Congress Parkway will also be closed between those hours.

Full closures are not expected to last more than fifteen minutes at a time, IDOT said.

The left lane on westbound I-290 from Halsted to Peoria will close at 11 p.m. Monday. At 11:59 p.m., the right lane on the Dan Ryan in both directions will close.

Additionally, the southbound Kennedy Expressway ramp to westbound I-290 will be closed from 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. Tuesday, IDOT said.

Drivers should allow extra travel time.
