All lanes reopen on I-94 in NW Indiana after semi crash

All lanes of I-94 in northwest Indiana are open again after a semi truck crashed and lost its load of paper Thursday morning.

The crash happened at 4:49 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-94 at the 22 mile marker near Porter, Ind., according to Indiana State Police.

A white 2010 International pulling a trailer filled with rolls of paper drifted over into the concrete median barrier and crashed, police said.

The semi ran against the barrier wall for about 300 feet before it started to roll onto its side, police said. The container came loose from the trailer and struck the inside leg of the overhead sign across the interstate, causing the trailer to split in half and spread its load across all eastbound lanes of traffic.

The semi rolled over onto its side and and came to rest in the right-hand lane and shoulder.

The 33-year-old Kentucky man driving the semi was taken to Porter Regional Hospital in Chesterton with “very minor injuries,” police said.

He was cited for unsafe lane movement and having a false log, police said.

As of 3:15 p.m., all lanes have reopened, according to Indiana State Police.
