Man shot in Austin robbery

A 52-year-old man was shot during a robbery attempt early Thursday in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.

The shooting happened about 12:10 a.m. in the 4700 block of South Maypole, police said. The man was walking when two men approached and announced a robbery.

The man was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said.
